Day 8

We began our day learning two new songs:  the Llama Song and the Titanic.  They are long and FUN!!  The morning work block was all over the place.  We had homesteaders out on the acre building fences and landscaping.  We had homesteaders in the sheep shed drawing on lumber and nailing houses together.  We had homesteaders in the peep loft printing fish fingers, hosting radio shows, working on lumber orders, drawing out lumber orders, publishing the second edition of the Red Fez.... We were all kinds of busy, all over the place!  BeZerk number was very similar, we got a LOT done!  I overheard the town clerk telling the mint workers that they would be paid half as many fish fingers as they create.  Rolph asked how that made any sense...  G'lant stood by the idea.  By the end of our second werk beZerk the town coffers were reduced by more than half, just to pay some of the mint workers (not all of them).  It seems like a pretty lucrative job.  G'lant is all about collecting taxes and keeps asking when and how he can.  The Fezians better watch out or their town will be bankrupt.  The town survey and the elected positions all must be paid for with town monies.  I wonder if we will read about this tomorrow in the Red Fez?

Town meeting moved at a very accelerated pace, it seems the homesteaders have caught on to the fact that they are in control.  We very quickly moved from discussing what type of government was wanted to voting it in.  The options were:  monarchy, dictatorship, monarch butterfly, and democracy.  There were murmurs of symbolism "We'll use an idol..."  Some discussion ensued as to whether or not an oligarchy would be the same thing as a democracy.  For the record, here in Fez, it won't be.  Peeps will be voting for officials whose ideals align with their own.  Although the secretary forgot about democracy when she read back her minutes, democracy ("What is democracy again??") claimed the most votes, followed by dictatorship and monarch butterfly.

Next the peeps discussed how many elected officials they wanted to have to run their town.  Three and four were suggested.  A strong argument was made to have three: "We will run into problems with even numbers.  There could be a tie, an odd number would be best."
"Why do we need elected officials?"
"Capture the flag and werk beZerk can be longer- no more lengthy town meetings for the whole town- just for those elected."

A motion was made to adjourn.  Boris argued against the motion, suggesting that we might as well spend three more minutes and actually finish up our business.  "There is already a motion on the table and I don't know how to take down a motion."
"Me neither."
The motion maker and seconder refused to rescind (when asked the motion maker replied, "What?  Do you think I'm stupid?"), so the motion to adjourn was voted on.  7 yays and 8 nays.  A new motion was made to vote on three or four select positions.  Three won with 14 votes.  Speeches for the select peep positions will be tomorrow at town meeting.  In the running are:  Gramma, Boris, Jim, JohnB, G'lant, and Zach.
